Don't Make This Mistake With Your Upvc Door Handles

Types of UPVC Door Handles

It is crucial to select the right replacement handle made of upvc for your home if upvc handles need replacing. Locksmiths can provide and install high-security uPVC handles that come with additional security features.

The most important measurements to take are the measurement A (also known as PZ) as well as the length of the backplate. Make sure to check these measurements to ensure that your new uPVC handles will fit.

Lever/Lever

A lever is a solid bar that is pivotally positioned around a point (known as a fulcrum). When you apply force to the end of the lever, it will tend to rotate the fulcrum to the direction of the force. This rotates the force and allows you to lift or move things that would normally require more force to lift.

The distance between the fulcrum to the point where you apply the force determines how far the lever can be moved. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The more the lever is extended more, the greater the mechanical advantage. You can calculate mechanical advantage by dividing distance from the fulcrum point to the point you apply force by the distance between fulcrum point and the end of the lever.

Levers also have various effects based on how the forces are applied. For instance a lever of class 2 tends to rotate in the opposite direction when the force applied to it (like a totter-totter). If you press on the door's handle, the forces will produce the same rotational effects as this.

However, levers don't create energy. They just multiply the force you exert by changing a small amount of effort over a large distance into a greater amount of force applied over a shorter distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport massive amounts of cargo. The lever principle is also utilized in everyday tools like crowbars. Hammer claws fishing rods, hammer claws, and your own legs, when you stand on your car's hand brake.

Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles, also known as  upvc door handles , feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. They are available in a variety of finishes & variations and can be installed on a variety of materials such as UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for the outer and inner door with spindles & screws included. They are available in unhanded and handed versions to suit different users.

These can be used to replace existing doors made of upvc. The levers are raised to open the multipoint locks, and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They provide a bit more security than standard lever door handles, as the locking can only be performed through the inside with the key.

They're not as secure as a cylinder bolt, but are a reasonable option to provide extra home security. The only downside is that they do not provide the same level of security as a cylinder lock, and therefore don't block access to the home if the door is left open.

We stock a large number of lever pad upvc handles that are made by top manufacturers in the field. They are constructed with top quality components. In general, they are supplied with a manufacturer's guarantee.

Typically, they will be designed to be compatible with a 92mm lock or the replacement version of this called a Paddock lock. They will have a 92mm centre cylinder on the inside and 62mm on the outside. They will also be fitted with 2 spindle followers. Some come with a backplate, and others are movable to accommodate different fixing centers.

Lever/Snib

Lever latches are the most basic type of door handles. Pushing down on the lever triggers a simple latch mechanism inside to keep the door closed, which can be locked with a key. The levers for privacy are based on this same principle, but with the addition of a snib (like a doorknob).

A snib button is extremely useful, particularly in homes where it's essential to protect privacy or ensure security. You can use the snib button to block your guests from entering the home until they are prepared. This type of handle is also popular in interior doors like bedrooms, where you might require a lock to prevent access from outside.

In some cases the snib button can cause problems, especially if you have doors and locks that are warped. If the snib switch is accidentally pressed by someone who isn't familiar with it, the door may shut and lock you out. You can usually gain entry by knocking the door frame or the letterbox. However, this is not ideal.

If your uPVC door is equipped with a snib-button it is recommended to replace the handle with a contemporary E-LOK 7-Series smart lock. These smart locks can be retrofitted to double turn pull handle kits. They are available with coverplates that hide holes that are already present to ensure an easy installation. The E-LOK application is able to unlock doors using RFID cards or a mechanical key. Passcodes are also offered for security and convenience. The system is tested to 200 000 cycles to ensure long-term durability. The handles are made from solid metal and are in compliance with BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.

Lever/Moveable Pad

This popular handle design is commonly used on front doors. It is advantageous because it has the benefit of preventing the door being opened without an outside key if the lock has not been deadlocked. This is accomplished through the 'pad'-shaped external handle that locks in the gap between the handles and lock case to prevent the latch from being withdrawn or the door being opened.

This handle is designed to be used with uPVC multipoint locks which use a split spindle mechanism. This kind of operation requires the lever handle as well as the external pad handle to be fitted to the same lock case. This could be a straightforward switch from the current uPVC handles, but it could also involve changing the lock case or a new set of handle furniture to allow this added functionality.
